Anki alternatives: choose around your study workflow

Compare Memoriser, RemNote and staying with Anki. Choose a flashcard workflow for your notes, then test one deck before switching.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Try Memoriser if your main job is turning existing notes into cards and reviewing them. Consider RemNote if you want to write linked notes and cards together. Keep Anki if your existing setup already works well.

Name the problem before replacing the app

A review backlog, vague cards and an awkward creation process are different problems. A new app will not automatically solve all three. Write down the part you want to change: preparing cards, finding your next review, or understanding an answer.

Use that problem as your test. If preparing cards is the bottleneck, give Memoriser one page of notes and check the resulting questions. If you already enjoy making cards, compare the review experience instead.

Where Memoriser fits

Memoriser combines AI card drafting, editable cards and FSRS spaced repetition. You can begin with pasted notes, a supported document or an Anki deck imported on the web. Free accounts have AI and storage limits; inspect your account before planning a large import.

It is worth trying when your source material already lives elsewhere and you want to turn it into a repeatable study session. It should not be treated as a promise that every Anki template or add-on will behave identically.

When to keep Anki or consider RemNote

Anki supports add-ons and custom card layouts. If those are essential to your study routine, list them before testing a replacement. RemNote brings note organisation and flashcards into one environment; evaluate it if that is the change you actually want.

Keep the original collection while testing. Move one representative deck, inspect difficult card types, then complete several reviews before making a broader decision.

Common questions

Will switching remove my backlog?

Changing apps does not remove the learning work. Check whether the import carries scheduling or starts cards as new, and choose deliberately.

Can I try Memoriser with an Anki deck?

Yes. Export a deck package and use the web importer. Check the import report, card rendering and media before moving more decks.
