Memoriser vs Anki: drafting, review and migration

Compare Memoriser and Anki by card preparation, review workflow and migration. Learn what to verify before moving an existing Anki deck.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Memoriser is worth a trial for AI drafting from your material and a guided review workflow. Anki remains a strong choice when custom templates and add-ons are part of your routine.

Choose the workflow, then compare the scheduler

A scheduler can only work with the cards you actually review. Try making five cards from your own notes, correcting an ambiguous answer, and completing a review session. Repeat that test on a day when you have little time.

Memoriser uses FSRS spaced repetition. Rate what you could recall before revealing the answer; do not rate the feeling of familiarity after you see it.

What importing does and does not promise

Memoriser offers an option to keep Anki scheduling. Imported scheduling is converted to its scheduler, and Anki review history is stored separately from reviews completed in Memoriser. Source deck preset weights and retention settings are not applied as Memoriser settings.

That means migration is not a guarantee of identical future due dates. A small trial lets you check the resulting queue before committing to a new routine.

Check whether the app is the problem

If your reviews feel difficult to maintain, count how many new cards you introduce and examine the questions you repeatedly miss. Some may be too broad, unclear or missing context. Changing the interface will not necessarily fix those cards.

If preparing material is the obstacle, trial a different creation workflow. Memoriser can draft cards from notes or supported documents, but you still need to review and edit the result. Compare the total time to a trustworthy deck, including corrections.

Run a representative deck test

Choose a deck with the card types you actually use, including images or audio if relevant. After import, inspect both card faces, missing-media warnings and any skipped cards. Compare the review experience as well as the imported count.

Stay with your current setup if it solves your needs. Switch when you can identify a specific improvement and the trial confirms that your important material remains usable.

Common questions

Is an Anki add-on guaranteed to work in Memoriser?

No. Test any cards that depend on custom templates, scripts or add-on behaviour. Importing a deck is not installing its Anki add-ons.

Does the importer preserve all future review dates exactly?

No identical-schedule guarantee is made. Source scheduling is converted and subsequent reviews use Memoriser’s scheduler and settings.
